Heat networks are systems that supply heat from a central source to multiple buildings through insulated pipes, providing space heating and hot water efficiently and cost-effectively. Is this course really free? Yes. The course is fully funded if you complete it by 31 March 2026. A £50 deposit is required upfront and will be refunded on completion. How long does the course take? The course includes eight self-paced online modules plus one day of hands-on practical training at a Baxi Training Centre. Do I need existing qualifications to take this course? Yes. This course is designed for qualified engineers with Blue/Gold SKILLcard, City and Guilds, NVQ, T-Level, Oftec, Gas Safe, or Unvented Cylinder qualifications. Where are the practical training sessions held? Practical training is delivered at Baxi Training Centres in Dartford, Warwick, or Warrington. You can select your preferred location and date when registering. What topics are covered in the online modules? The online modules cover introduction to heat networks, health and safety, installation and commissioning, operation and maintenance, water quality, metering and billing, performance monitoring, and fault finding. What happens on the practical training day? The one day practical session provides hands-on experience with heat network equipment, installation techniques, commissioning procedures, and maintenance practices under expert guidance. Will I get a certificate? Yes. On completion of both the online modules and practical training, you will receive a BESA accredited certificate. When is the funding deadline? You must complete the course by 31 March 2026 to qualify for full funding and receive your £50 deposit refund. How do I upload my pre-requisite evidence? After registering, you will be prompted to upload evidence of your existing qualifications. Once approved, you will receive confirmation of your place on the course.

As the first in a series of HNTAS training modules, this course provides a foundation for understanding the proposed scheme’s key components, defined roles, and assessment pathways ahead of regulation coming into force. It also includes technical overviews of major heat network elements such as Energy Centre, District and Communal Distribution Networks, Substations, Consumer Connections, and Consumer Heat Systems — offering a broader understanding of how HNTAS would apply across an entire network.Disclaimer: the following training has been developed ahead of the Government’s consultation on Heat Networks Technical Standards.
